Whether you’re here for a trail ride, gravel ride, rodeo, or lessons, the Poultney area has much to offer equine enthusiasts. The region is filled with farms and ranches, many that go back generations, and offer outstanding horse experiences in a wide variety of settings, including indoor and outdoor arenas, meadows, scenic trails and quiet hollow roads.


D&H Rail Trail

The Delaware & Hudson Rail Trail is a 19.8 mile stretch of former railroad bed in western Rutland and Bennington counties. Now a multi-use recreational trail, the D&H is open to horseback riding along with pedestrians and bicyclists in the warmer months and snowshoers, skiers and snowmobiles in the winter.

The trail is in two sections with one segment between Castleton and Poultney and the other between West Pawlet and Rupert, separated by a portion of trail in New York. The D&H Rail Trail travels through scenic countryside with views of nearby hills, villages, farms, fields and forests.

Pond Hill Ranch

Pond Hill Ranch is a family owned and operated 2,000-acre working ranch that offers horses and pony trail rides. The Pond Hill Ranch Rodeo Company offers 10 weekly rodeos on Saturday evenings, beginning in July. For more information and special events, visit the Pond Hill Ranch website.
